The Blood of Dawnwalker Skill Trees

The launch build has three real skill trees: Witchcraft, Swordmastery and Vampirism. Each tree feeds a different part of Coen's human-by-day, vampire-by-night run.

Quick answer

Coen progresses through three trees. Witchcraft covers daytime magic, gathering, crafting and item bonuses. Swordmastery sits in the middle and works in both forms through weapon combat, stamina and armour support. Vampirism belongs to the night loop, with mobility, claw damage, health recovery and blood-powered abilities.

Perks, Abilities and Ultimate Perks

Skills are split into passive Perks, active Abilities and Ultimate Perks. Active Abilities can be equipped to quick slots or called from the combat wheel. Each tree has Ultimate Perks, but a playthrough can learn only one Ultimate in each tree, so those choices should match the build you expect to keep.

Unlock order

  • Swordmastery is available from the start.
  • Witchcraft unlocks after the prologue-ending quest Smoke and Ashes, according to community reports.
  • Vampirism unlocks after Smoke and Ashes and expands as Corruption rises.
  • Ultimate unlock thresholds are still being checked across launch builds and should be treated as Needs verification.

How learning skills works

You spend points at roadside Shrines, not from anywhere in the menu. Points come from levelling up, and many skills also take time segments to learn. Higher ranks can require Manuals found through merchants, rewards or bookshelves. The important planning lesson is simple: learning skills competes with quests for the same clock. See the time system guide before spending scarce daylight.

Corruption and Vampirism

Vampirism progression has an extra gate: Corruption. Drinking blood from humans, animals or monsters raises Corruption, and community reports say higher Corruption opens more of the Vampirism tree. Exact thresholds beyond broad unlock rules are Needs verification.

Representative skills

TreeExamplesWhat they are used for
WitchcraftBurning Blood, Forbidden Sigils, Life Lock, Soul Reaping, Mercurial FervourDaytime magic, survivability, slots and utility
SwordmasteryEndless Effort, Vigour, Second Skin, Pack Mule, Stinging Blade, Master FencerShared stamina, health, armour, carry weight and weapon pressure
VampirismShapeshift, Vrakhiri Might, Blood Surge, Voracious Bite, Death From Above, ShredNight mobility, slots, feeding, burst damage and bleed pressure

Early-skill priorities

Early recommendations are editorial, not a settled community meta. The most consistent advice is to unlock more active slots, improve shared stamina or health, and take movement tools that save time. That makes Master Fencer, Forbidden Sigils, Vrakhiri Might, Endless Effort, Vigour, Shapeshift and Mercurial Fervour practical early checks rather than mandatory picks.

Respec status

No respec is available in the launch build, according to community reports. A future respec option has been discussed but is not confirmed in-game, so treat your point spending as permanent for now. Status: Needs verification.

What is still unknown

  • Exact node values — damage, cooldown, cost and scaling tables remain Needs verification.
  • Named sub-branches — no reliable source confirms official branch names inside the three trees.
  • Complete skill count — community counts exist, but the official total is still Needs verification.
  • Every day/night restriction — broad tree roles are verified, but each node still needs checking.
